1.How are the main characters introduced? What character types are they supposed to represent? What are their individual personality traits and family and social backgrounds and how are these depicted?
The main characters are all stereotypes and are introduced by videoing experiences of themselves throughout the beginning of the lockdown. All 5 characters have differences when it comes to family wealth and the type of person they are.
First character we get introduced is called Nira, a character who comes from a wealthy background as seen with luxury items and decor in her home. She is a confident person who is also kind.
The next two characters are represented by coming from and average family wealth background as they also have large interior designed homes however bedroom wise not so much. Both of the characters can be funny at times to each other and can also be silly. Character Emi is described to be more of a sporty person due to the trophies located on the right hand side of her bedroom. Sam on the other hand is mostly and artistic person due to the artistic painting on her wall.
Sam:
Lastly the other two main characters are the two male characters named Chris and and Aiden. Aiden is represented as a gamer who also seems to be a bit anti social at times. We cannot guarantee he is in a wealthy family just because, we don't see his pc setup which can help lead to what type of family he lives with. However, he does have a big bedroom which results to a more average family wealth. Aiden on the other hand seems to be in the lower end of wealth compared to Chris just because, his bedroom is plain, small and pretty empty. He is also represented as the nice guy, but can also push things.
Aiden:
2.What elements of new technology/online culture/social media are incorporated in the way the characters interact and how the programme is constructed? What, if any elements of what we see, is non-diegetic,i.e. do we ever see events not mediated through webcams/phone cameras/ zoom calls, etc? What effect does this have for the viewer and how we relate to the characters or action?
As of this episode, it uses current media culture in which uses "Tik-Tok" and dancing with the Tik-Tok dance trend called "Renegade". The characters also use a hand full of social medias such as messaging apps, zoom/ face time calls and other sorts of ways to interact and enjoy. Due to "Lockdown" they can only film each other through camera lenses through the phones or computers.
This also can show interest towards the audience due to fictional characters going through lockdown at the same time what we are going through also by the limited communications of only using technology.
3.How does the episode use Thriller, Crime or Horror conventions to set up it's central mystery? Give examples and say in what ways you think Lockdown plays with our narrative expectations?
The episode uses Thriller, crime or Horror conventions to set up it's central mystery is by firstly adding a sound effect which was a scary scream effect. This already sets a theme of horror as this could be a sign of death. Nira next door neighbour was disguised with a hoody who seems to have committed something suspicious in which where the sound came from. This will allow the viewers to have questions throughout these episodes and how the main protagonist(Nira) is going to solve and reveal this mystery. Nira however wont be alone on this investigation as the rest of the characters are there also to help.
Lastly I believe the lockdown plays with our narrative expectations as there are restrictions when it comes to equipment's and locations. Most shows that are created during the lockdown period are using only zoom calls/ face time calls. This does make us as the audience feel like we are there also with them experiencing it with the same issue as them. This does also makes it repetitive for the audience which can lose attraction fast from the audiences for the new adaptation for the media content.
